What Is Child Support?

When you divorce or have had a child though not married, and have either been awarded joint or exclusive custody your child or children, you may be entitled to child support.

Child support refers to the sum that one parent must pay to the other parent- whether or not the parent is the full time or part time custodial parent.  This issue of child custody can be one of extreme conflict between the two parties. If one or the other of the spouses feel that the other spouse has the financial wherewithal to fully participate as a parent, yet still wants the other to provide for the expense of the child hostilities can ensue.
